There’s no shortage of people out there who will chew your ear off about how much meditation can improve your life, but what about orgasmic meditation? Many extremely successful and wealthy people are proud meditators who swear by their practices. However, now it seems that those among us who are sexually successful might have orgasmic meditation to thank, or at least a new kind of meditation that includes an act most people would consider pretty sexual. Orgasmic meditation is the new, popular art of “vagina stroking.” Is this new trend that's sweeping the nation right for you and your sex life?
Would you try this? Let us know in the comments!

Birth. Orgasmic Meditation developed out of a specific organization and movement, namely the Slow Sex movement. Both cropped up out of the San Francisco area. Thanks, San Fran.

Slow sex. The slow sex movement basically aims to take a more meditative and mindful approach to one’s sex life. However, slow sex isn’t concerned specifically with time spent but rather three ingredients.

Nicole Daedone. Nicole Daedone founded the movement in 2001. It began as an urban retreat and developed into a business. Out of the slow sex movement a profitable business would eventually develop.
3 traits. in an interview with San Francisco’s 7x7 magazine, Daedone described the following as the traits that define slow sex, "1) developing attention to what's actually present rather than fixating on a goal, 2) simplicity, a stripping away of extraneous elements down to the level of pure sensation 3) cultivating desire by learning to acknowledge and articulate it."

Slow sex characteristics. One characteristic of the slow sex movement that has been somewhat controversial is a heightened focus on the female orgasm. However, another characteristic is belief that love and flirtation are expendable from the sexual experience.

One Taste. Daedone founded One Taste in 2001 in San Francisco’s Soma district. The organizations goal is to "to create a clean, well-lit place where sexuality, relationship, and intimacy could be discussed openly and honestly.”
Orgasmic meditation. One taste has seen the most attention as a result of the interest in orgasmic meditation (or OMing.) OMing is a mindfulness or meditative practice that also includes finger to genital contact.

Stroking. The finger to genital contact portion of OMing can occur between partners but often occurs between strangers. One woman lies down as her partner strokes her clitoris in a room with other people.

Description. The purpose is to channel the energy of the clitoris and the female orgasm. The partner will often be asked to describe the shape and color of the clitoris while describing its energy.

Orgasm. While orgasm is the stated goal of the practice, it seems that people tend to feel something separate. In fact, many of the partners who do the actual stroking claim to feel a ‘heady buzz while OMing.

Consciousness. Basically, Daedone sees OMIng as the “yoga of sex.” She’s stated that OMing “brings consciousness to sexuality the way meditation brings consciousness to stillness and yoga brings consciousness to movement.”

Price. OMing is popular but it’s not at all cheap. Programs that are available at OneTaste centers across the country range from $7,500 to $15,000.

Cult. Several journalists have equated OneTaste to a cult. Interestingly much like a cult, its practitioners often live in OneTaste headquarters and some have communal, polyamorous relationships with one another.

Stroking. Interested in learning how to stroke? Here’s an explanation from Daedone herself, "The stroker prepares for the session by massaging the subject’s legs with ‘grounding pressure,’ while the stroker’s gaze is focused on her clitoris, or at least the general area. After that is the ‘noticing’ phase, in which the stroker is supposed to narrate what’s being seen, using ‘non-value’ terms, as though a woman can listen to her vagina being described aloud without feeling judged. Then the stroker gets into position, placing his right thumb at the edge of her introitus (the opening of her vagina) and the tip of his left index finger on her clit at the 8 o’clock spot. The subject is encouraged to give ‘adjustments,’ detailing if she wants the stroker to move a little to the left or to apply less pressure."

Converts. According to Onetaste, people come to OMing for different reasons. Women come to get a better understanding of their sexuality. Now, more and more men are joining in order to become more capable lovers and experience what they can of the female orgasm.
